

MUSCAT: The University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS), Al Musannah, hosted a thought-provoking symposium titled ‘The Omani Ethos: Spirit of Authenticity and Essence of Civilisation’. The event reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to strengthening national identity and instilling Omani values in younger generations. Featuring insights from distinguished academics and media professionals, the symposium explored five key themes that highlighted the deep-rooted cultural and ethical framework of Oman.
Dr Rajab al Owaisi, a Social and Educational Studies Expert at the State Council, opened the discussions with a paper on the role of Omani parliaments and the Ministry of Information in reinforcing the Omani ethos. He emphasised how these institutions shape a well-balanced national identity and contribute to preserving Omani ethical and cultural values.
The second presentation, delivered by academic Dr Mohammed al Huaili, examined the historical roots of Omani values and their lasting influence on social behaviour. He delved into how generations have preserved this cultural heritage, ensuring continuity amid changing societal dynamics.
Renowned media professional Ali al Ajmi addressed the third theme, focusing on the role of media in shaping the Omani ethos. He discussed how traditional and modern media contribute to promoting Omani identity while highlighting the challenges posed by digital platforms in preserving cultural heritage.
The fourth paper, presented by Dr Basma al Riyami, emphasised youth engagement in social development. She underscored the importance of fostering collaboration between community groups and empowering young Omanis to play an active role in upholding and transmitting national values.
