So Much More to Offer
The kite surfing scene in Oman is still in its infancy, ensuring that intrepid adventurers can enjoy pristine sessions without the crowds that often accompany more established locations. Here, the ocean feels like a private playground, with the added thrill of encountering magnificent wildlife such as dolphins, rays, and turtles along the way.
The ideal kiting conditions can be found between April and September, when wind speeds typically soar between 25 to 30 knots and temperatures linger between a balmy 30 to 35 degrees Celsius. Kiteboarders can leave their wetsuits at home; however, a rash guard is recommended for sun protection and to shield against the strong winds. With a variety of spots available, from shallow, flat water lagoons perfect for beginners to challenging waves reaching up to 4 metres for experts, Oman caters to riders of all skill levels.

For those seeking an adrenaline-fuelled adventure, a kite safari in Oman is an experience not to be missed. Intermediate and advanced riders can join guided excursions that explore various kite spots, revealing breathtaking natural beauty along the coastline. Visitors can opt to stay in comfortable hotels situated right on the water at Ras Al Hadd lagoon, or for a more rustic experience, camping rentals are available, complete with weather-proof tents and optional amenities such as toilet facilities and meals.
Starting from Ras Al Hadd lagoon, kite safari participants can embark on daily adventures that include everything from flat water spots to towering waves, with the option to take part in a thrilling 300-kilometre downwinder along the coast, camping on the beach each night and discovering offshore islands along the way.
Thanks to its reliable winds and shallow lagoons, Oman is also an excellent environment for beginners. Locations like Ras Al Hadd lagoon, Masirah Island, and Muscat’s Kite Beach provide safe and suitable conditions for novice riders to hone their skills.
Being a relatively undiscovered kiteboarding destination, Oman offers the rare opportunity to enjoy idyllic kiting conditions, from serene flat water to challenging waves, often entirely to oneself. Masirah Island, in particular, is a kiteboarder's dream, with all conditions accessible within a short 20-minute journey. Mussanah Beach offers a fantastic resort experience with water sports readily available, while Muscat’s Kite Beach serves as a convenient spot, just a stone's throw from both the airport and the city.
Though kiteboarding is an emerging sport here, the infrastructure is still developing. Prospective visitors are encouraged to bring their own gear, and those planning to travel between sites are advised to pack spare equipment and a repair kit, as repair shops are sparse. Transportation from the airport can easily be arranged through accommodations, particularly for those joining a kite safari. For those keen to explore on their own, renting a 4x4 vehicle is highly recommended.
