MUSCAT: In a significant move towards environmental sustainability, Oman SATS has unveiled its new electric vehicles and charging stations at the Muscat Airport Cargo Terminal, yesterday, February 20. The milestone reinforces the company’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and advancing green initiatives within the aviation and logistics sector.

The introduction of electric vehicles marks a vital step in the modernisation of Oman’s air cargo operations, with the added benefit of cutting down on emissions and promoting energy efficiency. With this move, Oman SATS aims to play a crucial role in the Sultanate’s broader environmental objectives, contributing to the nation’s commitment to sustainability.

At the launch, officials highlighted the importance of adopting eco-friendly technologies, not only in reducing carbon emissions but also in enhancing operational efficiency. The new electric vehicles are expected to reduce fuel consumption, lower maintenance costs, and provide a quieter and cleaner alternative for cargo handling at the airport.

Speaking to the Observer, Siang Tang Tan, CEO at Oman SATS said: “We are thrilled to launch our electric vehicles and charging stations in Oman SATS, marking a key step in supporting the Sultanate of Oman and its industry. As the first company to introduce electric vehicles on a large scale in Oman, we aim to create a more sustainable future.” “We urge everyone to support this initiative for a greener Oman, benefiting future generations. Let’s go green.” He added Oman SATS’ new infrastructure will serve as a key part of the airport’s drive towards becoming a more energy-efficient and eco-conscious hub. As the first of its kind in the region, this initiative is expected to set a benchmark for other airports and companies to follow in adopting greener practices.

In partnership with the government’s sustainability goals, the project aligns with Oman’s Vision 2040, which prioritises environmental conservation and carbon reduction across all sectors.
