MUSCAT: Seeb Club secured its spot in the final match of the 54th edition of the His Majesty’s Cup football competition, set to take place next Thursday at the Ibra Sports Complex in Al Sharqiyah North Governorate. This comes after Seeb triumphed over Saham with a 1-0 victory in the second leg of the semi finals, held at Sohar Sports Complex.
The match started cautiously from both sides, but Seeb had an early opportunity to open the scoring in the 5th minute with a beautiful shot from Jameel al Yahmadi, which Saham's defence cleared for a corner kick. Saham, in turn, had a promising chance in the 11th minute when Mohammed al Maamari unleashed a powerful shot that failed to find the net.
Both teams continued to exchange opportunities without scoring goals, ending the first half in a goalless draw.
Seeb started the second half with an aggressive attacking approach, aiming to break the deadlock, while Saham relied on counterattacks. Despite Seeb's relentless pressure, the finishing touch was missing, as their attempts lacked precision and focus. The breakthrough finally came in the 81st minute when the referee awarded a penalty to Seeb after Abdulrahman al Mushaifri was fouled by Marwan al Ghafri. Arshad al Alawi confidently converted the penalty, giving Seeb a crucial 1-0 lead. In the closing minutes, Saham pushed hard for an equaliser and came close in the 88th minute with a powerful shot from Rabie al Maamari, which narrowly missed the post. Despite several last minute attempts, Saham couldn't find the back of the net. With the final whistle, Seeb secured their spot in the much anticipated final, aiming to add another title to their collection.
Al Shabab Reaches the His Majesty’s Cup Final After Overcoming Al Nasr in a Penalty Shootout
Al Shabab Club advanced to the final of the His Majesty’s Cup after defeating Al Nasr in a penalty shootout (4-3), following a 1-0 win for Al Nasr in regular and extra time. The match was played at Seeb Sports Stadium as part of the second leg semi finals, with the first leg having ended in a 1-0 victory for Al Shabab. The opening minutes of the first half saw a fast paced game with both teams exchanging attacks. In the 6th minute, Al Nasr took the lead through Marwan Taib, who capitalised on a precise cross from Awadh al Shihri, heading the ball into Al Shabab’s net. Following Al Nasr's goal, Al Shabab players pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Al Nasr’s strong defence, along with an outstanding performance by goalkeeper Ibrahim al Rajhi, denied them any breakthroughs. Meanwhile, Al Nasr continued to rely on swift counterattacks that posed some danger to Al Shabab’s goal. The first half ended with Al Nasr leading 1-0.
Both teams entered the second half with high determination to secure a place in the final. Al Shabab aimed to score the equaliser, which would have been enough to qualify based on aggregate, while Al Nasr sought to extend their lead. Marwan Taib had a couple of decent chances for Al Nasr, but they lacked the necessary threat, while Al Shabab created several opportunities to level the score but failed to convert them.
With the aggregate score tied, the match went into extra time, which also ended goalless, leading to a penalty shootout. Al Shabab held their nerve, winning 4-3 in the shootout, securing their spot in the final against Seeb next Thursday.
