OOC General Assembly Sets April Election, Approves Committees

Muscat: The Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) General Assembly met on Sunday at the JW Marriott Hotel and set April 22, 2025, as the date for the 2024–2028 elections.


The meeting, led by OOC President Khalid bin Mohammed al Zubair, began with his remarks highlighting its role in preparing for the upcoming OOC Board of Directors elections.


Al Zubair emphasised that the meeting addressed two key aspects reflecting the Board’s commitment to integrity and transparency in the electoral process: approving the electoral committees and endorsing minor amendments to the election regulations to enhance clarity and effectiveness as a sustainable framework.


Khalid al Zubair said, “Your attendance at this important meeting reflects our shared commitment to strengthening the role of the General Assembly, which serves as the basis of Omani Olympic movement. On this occasion, I would like to commend your invaluable support and active participation, which has played a fundamental role in advancing the institutional framework of sports governance.”

“We extend our deepest gratitude and appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik for his generous support and wise guidance, which serve as our road map toward a sustainable and progressive sports renaissance,” he ended.


The General Assembly then reviewed the agenda, approving the revised election regulations and the electoral committees, including the Elections Committee and the Appeals Committee.


The Elections Committee will be chaired by Dr Hamad bin Mohammed al Hadhrami, with members including Mohammed bin Saif al Rashdi, Nasser bin Suleiman al Zaidi, Ismail bin Hamad al Hinai and Ahmed bin Hamad al Mahmoudi.


The Appeals Committee will be led by Shaikh Abdulwahab bin Abdullah al Hinai, with members including Hajar bint Qambar al Ajmiyah and Jamal bin Salim al Nabhani.


OOC Board of Directors discussions on key agenda items, including the approval of the previous Board meeting held on September 11, 2024, the review of the final accounts for the fiscal year 2024, the auditors’ report, and the 2025 budget.

In addition to a summary of activities and events held in 2024. Among the key domestic events organised were: The GCC Women’s Sports Hackathon, Women & Sports Dialogue Session, Athletes’ Forum, Hiking for an Active Society and Sustainable Health event in Salalah, Physical Activity and Health Awareness Workshop, 2024 Olympic Day.


Additionally, it covered the outcomes of Oman’s participation in international sporting events, including: The First GCC Youth Games, held in UAE from April 16 to May 2, 33rd Summer Olympic Games (Paris 2024), held in France from July 26 to August 11.


The Board also approved the OOC’s programmes and events for 2025, with key international participations including: The 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain, 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Saudi Arabia, 1st West Asian Youth Games in Iraq.


On the other hand, the Board reviewed upcoming internal events, including Olympic Day, programs under Oman Olympic Academy, and various sports, awareness and social initiatives planned within the framework of Sub-committees.
