

MUSCAT: The Oman Cancer Association (OCA) successfully concluded its symposium, “Advances in Oncology: A Multidisciplinary Approach,” in collaboration with Global Treatment Services and Fortis Hospitals held recently at the Crowne Plaza Muscat. The event saw the participation of over 170 healthcare professionals and researchers, marking a significant step forward in cancer awareness and treatment discussions.
As part of OCA’s 25th-anniversary celebrations, the symposium provided a vital platform for leading experts in Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Haematology, Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) and Radioecology to discuss the latest advancements and best practices in cancer treatment.
In her opening remarks, Dr Wahid al Kharousi, President of OCA, emphasised the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration in oncology, stating, “This symposium represents a key milestone in advancing cancer care in Oman by highlighting cutting-edge research and innovative medical practices.”
Key topics and discussions
The event featured interactive discussions and presentations on: Innovative treatments in oncology and their impact on patient outcomes beside another one on Advancements in surgical oncology and minimally invasive techniques. Haematology and bone marrow transplantation and their role in patient recovery. Radioecology and the effects of radiation in cancer treatment.
Experts presented case studies, research findings and new treatment approaches, while Q&A sessions encouraged dynamic exchanges of knowledge among participants.

Participants praised the symposium’s organisation and the high quality of discussions, noting, The overwhelming response to this event underscores the urgent need for such scientific gatherings, which bridge academic research with real-world medical applications to improve cancer care in the region.
The Participants reaffirmed OCA’s commitment, stating, “As we celebrate 25 years of service, we remain dedicated to fostering awareness, supporting research and organising impactful initiatives that contribute to the fight against cancer.”
