MUSCAT: The head coach of the Oman veterans football team, Younis Amman, recently announced the team’s squad for the domestic camp, which began on Saturday in Muscat. This camp is part of the team’s preparations for the Arabian Gulf Veterans Cup, which will take place in Kuwait from February 23 to 27.

The unveiled squad features many players who represented Oman in the 19th edition of the Gulf Cup, hosted by Oman, where the national team was crowned champions for the first time. The squad includes the following players: Ahmed al Mazroui, Ali al Habsi, Mohammed Rabee, Said al Raqadi, Mahfoudh al Oraimi, Ismail al Ajmi, Badar al Maimani, Ahmed Hadid, Abdullah al Saadi, Khalifa Ayel, Hassan Yousef, Mohammed Zayid, Fawzi Basheer, Ridwan bin Salim al Touqi, Hashim Saleh, Imad al Hosni, Hani al Dhabit, Hassan Rabee, Matar Khalifa, Mohammed Mubarak, Yaqoob al Mukhaini, Juma Darweesh, Nabil Ashoor, Abdullah Kamoina, Ali al Ajmi, Mohammed al Mukhaini, and Adil Fayel.

It is expected that the head coach and his assistant, Mohamed bin Khamis al Oraimi, will finalise the starting list for the team through this camp. Also, during the gathering in Muscat, the players will return to action to improve their fitness and physical condition, especially as some players have been absent from the field for a long period.

The Arabian Gulf Veterans Cup will take place in Kuwait from February 23 to 27. The draw for the event will be held during the third week of February, with the eight participating teams divided into two groups of four. The playing format will follow the structure of the last Gulf Cup, which was hosted by Kuwait. The competition will be held in a single round-robin format, with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the semi-finals. The winners of the semi-finals will progress to the final match. Oman’s Ahmed Kanu was not selected, as he has not yet reached the age of 40. The tournament’s technical regulations stipulate that players must be at least 40 years old.

Al Nasr Stadium will be the venue for the tournament. The other regulations of the tournament state that each match will last 40 minutes, divided into two halves of 20 minutes each. Each team will consist of 11 players, with open substitutions allowed. Video assistant referee (VAR) technology will not be used in the tournament. Al Nasr Stadium will also include training grounds, allowing teams to conduct their training and warm-up sessions in one location, providing an organisational advantage.
