

Muscat: Breast cancer was the most prevalent type of cancer among Omanis in 2020, with 277 recorded cases, according to newly released data by the Ministry of Health (MoH) .
The report reveals the top 10 most common cancers in the country, highlighting the need for continued awareness and early detection efforts.
Following the breast cancer, thyroid cancer ranked second with 243 cases, while colorectal cancer was the third most common, affecting 234 people.
According to the report, these three types of cancer accounted for a significant portion of the total cases recorded.
Leukaemia and non-Hodgkin lymphoma each registered 118 cases, making them the fourth most frequent cancers among Omanis.
Brain cancer followed with 88 cases, while stomach cancer was reported in 73 individuals.
Promach, trachea, bronchus, and lung cancers were also prevalent, with 71 cases each.
The ministry said that despite skin cancer was the least common among the top 10, it affected 61 Omanis in 2020.
According to the ministry: It is crucial to maintain a healthy diet and a regular physical activity that help prevent the risk of cancer.
The data serves as a reminder of the importance to undergo early screening to combat the disease.
