Mashkoor owned by Hamad al Amri was the hero of human rider's round on the fifth day of the Annual Camel Race in Suhar on Wednesday.


The fifth day’s daggers were snatched by Al Wasmiyah owned by Salim al Hishami, Mublish owned by Ali al Maliki, Al Anoud owned by Ali al Rumaithi and Mikhlab owned by Humaid bin Hamad al Amri.


The race, organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY) through the Oman Camel Racing Federation (OCRF), runs from January 25 to 30. It is part of the 22nd edition of the annual camel racing season for 2024-2025, featuring 23 events.


Spanning six days, the competition includes 100 rounds with participation of around 2000 camels representing Oman and the GCC. Over 1,000 prizes are set to be awarded, including 24 cars, 15 daggers, six icons, silver and golden swords, along with cash prizes for the top ten winners in each race.


On the fifth day, competitions continued with 12 rounds over a distance of 8 km; six rounds were run in the ‘Al Thanaya’ category, five years old with two daggers, and six rounds were allocated for the ‘Al Hawl’ category with two daggers as prizes. In addition, a 2 km-long round for human riders for daggers was held. All rounds had cash prizes for the top 10 finishers.


On Thursday, the concluding competitions will be held in the afternoon with six main rounds: two rounds will be for Al Thanaya category (8 km) with SUV cars and golden dagger, and two rounds for Al Hawl category (8 km) with SUV cars and gold and silver swords.


In the two rounds for human riders (2 km), valuable cars will be awarded to the winners, while the top 10 will get cash prizes.


The concluding ceremony will be under the auspices of Shaikh Suba’a bin Hamdan al Saadi, Secretary-General of the Secretariat-General of National Celebrations, in presence of Shaikh Said bin Saud al Ghufaili, Chairman of the Oman Camel Racing Federation.
