GCC universities excel in 10th sports tournament

The 10th Sports Tournament for University and Higher Education Institution Students in the GCC concluded amidst an atmosphere of enthusiasm and honourable sportsmanship. The closing ceremony, held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher, was under the auspices of Sayyid Saud bin Hilal al Busaidy, Governor of Muscat, and attended by dignitaries, heads of delegations, and representatives of participating universities.


The tournament, organised by Sultan Qaboos University, featured 17 universities competing across seven sports, including athletics, swimming, football, 3x3 basketball, volleyball, badminton, and table tennis. The event showcased outstanding performances and exceptional athletic talents.


The basketball competitions concluded with remarkable results. Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University (IAU) secured first place, followed by King Abdulaziz University in second, and Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) in third. Outstanding players were recognised, with Saif al Toobi from SQU named the tournament’s best player, and Joedi Maher from Qassim University awarded the title of best shooter.


The swimming competitions saw remarkable performances. In the relay race, IAU took first place, followed by Doha University of Science and Technology in second, and Qatar University in third. In the 100m freestyle, Ali al Essa from IAU claimed first place, with Mohammed Khalil from Qatar University in second. For the 50m butterfly, Ali Abduljaleel from IAU won first place, Ali al Shimali from Kuwait University came second, and Nasser al Kindi from the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) took third.


The 50m breaststroke saw Mohammed Aziz from Qatar University in first place, Abdullah al Khalidi from Doha University of Science and Technology in second, and Nasser al Kindi from IAU in third. In the 50m backstroke, Ali al Essa from IAU claimed first place, followed by Abdullah al Khalidi and Aziz Munther from Kuwait University in second and third, respectively. The 50m freestyle title went to Yousef Ibrahim from Doha University of Science and Technology, with Ali al Maher from IAU in second and Dawood al Rashidi from King Saud University in third.

The athletics events also delivered outstanding results. UTAS won the 4x100m relay, SQU came second, and Majmaah University took third. In the shot put, Sam al Touqi from UTAS took first place, followed by Nasrallah al Riyami from SQU in second, and Hamad al Fleikaoui from Kuwait University in third. Anas al Rumhi from UTAS won the 100m race, Faisal al Salmi from SQU came second, and Shahin al Shatti from Kuwait University secured third. Hamza al Jabri from UTAS dominated the 400m race, with Khaled Hashemi from King Khalid University in second and Suleiman Mallah from Kuwait University in third.


In the 1500m, Khaled al Harbi from Kuwait University secured first place, Hamad al Yahyai from UAE University came second, and Abdullah al Qahtani from King Khalid University took third. The long-jump competition was won by Abdullah Ali from Doha University of Science and Technology, followed by Ayham al Hosni from SQU in second and Jihad al Toobi from UTAS in third. Al Mulhim al Shakeeli from UTAS won the 200m race, Shahin al Shatti came second, and Hashemi al Khathami from King Khalid University took third. In the 800m, Mohammed al Sulaimani from SQU claimed first place, Hamad al Yahyai from UAE University came second, and Abdullah al Qahtani from King Khalid University secured third.
