Muscat: The Oman Tennis Association (OTA) concluded the International Tennis Federation's (ITF) West and Central Asia 14 and Under Qualifiers 2025, which took place over 10 days at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher, under the auspices of OTA Chairman Moatasim al Zadjali.


In his closing remarks, Ahmed al Balushi, the tournament director, emphasised that hosting the event reflects the association's efforts to enhance Oman’s position on the global sports map. The tournament featured 13 teams with 46 players, 13 coaches and fierce competition across 10 days to improve rankings and achieve various sporting goals.


The tournament's first week resulted in male and female players achieving advanced positions in various categories. In the girls' doubles category, the duo of Sarah Mai Zeva and Eva Javshina from the Kyrgyzstan national team won first place, while the Lebanese duo of Lama Naaman and Eliana al Samad came in second place. In boys' doubles, Syria's Mohammed Ayad and Karim Salem won first place, while Kyrgyzstan's Maxim Kim and Bekai Asinov came in second place.

In girls' singles, Kyrgyzstan's Sarah Mai Zeva won first place, followed by her teammate Eva Javshina in second, while Arin al Azkowi of Oman finished third. In boys' singles, Syria's Mohammed Ayad came on top beating Iraq's Hassan, while Kyrgyzstan's Bekai Asinov took third spot.


The second week of the tournament witnessed strong competitions that resulted in the crowning of male and female players from various national teams. In girls' doubles, the Kyrgyz duo of Sara Mai Ziva and Eva Javshina retained first place, while the Lebanese duo of Lama Naaman and Eliana al Samad came in second. In boys' doubles, Syria's Mohammad Ayad and Karim Salem achieved first place, while the Kyrgyz duo of Maxim Kim and Bekai Asinov came in second. In the girls' singles, Kyrgyzstan's Eva Javshina succeeded in snatching first place, followed by her teammate Sara Mai Ziva in second place, while Lebanon's Eliana al Samad came third. In boys' singles, Syria's Mohammad Ayad continued his superiority, taking first place, while Iraq's Hassan Ali Hatem came in second and Saudi Arabia's Ahmed Sarouji finished third.


RISE IN PARTICIPATION


In the overall standings, Kyrgyzstan secured first place, followed by Syria in second and Iraq in third. The top two teams qualified for the Asian Tennis Federation's Asia 2025 finals.


Moatasim al Zadjali praised the high standards of the international and regional championship, highlighting the participation of 13 countries from the region. He noted that this was Oman’s second time hosting the event, with a noticeable increase in participants compared to the first edition. Al Zadjali congratulated the winning teams, emphasising that such tournaments provide opportunities for the national team to compete with international players, gain ranking points, and improve their global standings.


Syria’s Mohammad Iyad Salim expressed pride in his double victory and qualification for the Asian Tennis Finals. He attributed his success to intensive training and significant efforts. Salim praised the fierce competition, which brought together elite players from West and Central Asia, and described the tournament as a perfect opportunity to gain experience and grow. He also lauded the excellent atmosphere and professional organisation that ensured a competitive and enjoyable environment.
