The groundwork on the Muttrah cable car project is progressing in full swing, with several officials of the Muscat Governorate visiting the work site. Currently, earthworks are underway at one of the project sites, and access is restricted, the contractors told the Oman Daily Observer. The cable car will have three stations: starting at the fish market (near Port Sultan Qaboos), the mountain top near Riyam Park, and ending at Al Khabou Park. When completed, it will be the largest cable car project over the sea in the region. On Monday, the Deputy Wali of Muttrah visited the cable car project and the museum adjacent to Muttrah Fort to follow up on the progress. The cable car will provide stunning views of the sea and waterfront, while the museum will present the area's rich history to visitors. Rakaez Investments is the main civil contractor for the project, specialising in site surveying, assessing the topography, soil conditions and potential obstacles for the route, as well as setting up steel or concrete towers to support the cable lines, laying the cable lines across the towers, among other tasks.

Bartholet will be responsible for designing and engineering aspects of the project.

Each of the three cable car stations will have facilities for entertainment and refreshments, among others. The project will offer different entertainment elements for families, tourists, residents, and citizens. There is also a simultaneous plan to develop parking and other related infrastructure by concerned government agencies and government companies.
