Muscat: The groundwork on the Muttrah Cable Car project is progressing in full swing with several officials of the Muscat Governorate visiting the work site.
Currently, earthworks are underway at one of the sites of the project and access is restricted, the contractors concerned with the project told the Observer.
The cable car will have three stations starting at the fish market (near Port Sultan Qaboos), the mountain top near Riyam Park, and ending end at Kalbuh Park. When complete, it will be the largest cable car project over the sea in the region.
On Monday, the Deputy of Wali of Muttrah visited the cable car project and the museum adjacent to Mutrah Fort, to follow up on the progress.
The cable car will provide stunning views of the sea, and waterfront while the museum will present the area's rich history to the visitors.
Rakaez Investments is the main civil contractor for the project and specializes in site surveying, assessing the topography, soil conditions, and potential obstacles for the route, besides setting up steel or concrete towers that will support the cable lines, laying the cable lines across the towers, among others.
Bartholet will be responsible for designing and engineering aspects of the project.
Each of the three cable car stations will have facilities for entertainment and refreshments among others.
The project has different entertainment elements for families, tourists, residents, and citizens.
There is also a plan simultaneously to develop the parking and other related infrastructure by concerned government agencies and government companies.
