SUWAIQ: Nama Water Services has completed the expansion of sewage treatment plants in the Wilayats of Al-Khabourah and Al-Suwaiq. This initiative aligns with the company’s strategy to improve basic services, promote sustainable development, and support Oman’s environmental goals.

Eng. Hilal bin Masoud al Sharji, Acting Director of Operations Support at Nama Water Services, highlighted the project’s impact. “These expanded facilities significantly enhance wastewater infrastructure, ensuring environmental preservation and efficient reuse of treated water for agriculture, irrigation, and industrial purposes. This supports Oman’s strategic vision to protect groundwater resources and expand green spaces while improving food security,” he said.

The plants employ advanced international wastewater treatment techniques, with a total combined capacity of 4,500 cubic meters daily. The Al-Khabourah facility handles 2,500 cubic meters daily, while the Al-Suwaiq plant processes 2,000 cubic meters. Both plants have the potential to scale operations in response to urban and population growth in the two wilayats.

Nama Water Services is also advancing related projects. These include constructing a sewage network, treatment plant, and irrigation line in Al-Musannah to connect 2,000 residential units, and the third phase of Sohar’s sewage network, which will connect 4,200 residential and commercial units to the existing system.

Eng Abdullah bin Salem al Shamsi, Director of Operations and Maintenance in North Al Batinah, emphasized that the plants are equipped to handle daily wastewater needs and provide cost-effective solutions for tanker emptying services, as approved by the relevant authorities.

These initiatives collectively reinforce Nama Water Services' commitment to environmental sanitation, efficient resource management, and the development of modern infrastructure. — ONA
