

Muscat: A mild earthquake measuring 2.5 on the Richter scale was recorded in Muscat at 02:43 pm on Sunday, which was also felt by residents of the Ruwi, Wadi Kabir, Muttrah, and Sidab areas.
According to the Earthquake Monitoring Center (EMC) of Sultan Qaboos University, the tremors measuring 2.5 on the Richter scale were triggered at 2.43 pm local time in the Muscat area, 3km south of Muscat. It had a depth of 0 km.
A similar mild earthquake measuring 2.3 on the Richter scale was recorded in the Wilayat of Al Amerat on November 24, which was also felt by residents of the Wilayats of Al Amerat, Muscat, Muttrah, Wadi Kabir, and Sidab.
Usually, the tremors measuring 2.5 or less on the Richter scale are not felt but can be recorded by a seismograph, according to experts.
Worldwide millions of minor earthquakes are recorded every year. The Center monitors earthquakes that occur inside and outside the Sultanate, reports them, and disseminates their data to the competent authorities Since its inception, the center has undergone several developmental stages.
