Muscat: As the Ministry of Health (MOH) works to reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases and improve disease management and access to high-quality health services, the National Survey of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) has been launched in the Sultanate of Oman, which will be carried out from Sunday in two phases.
All citizens and residents (above age 15) have been urged to fully cooperate with the field work teams as joint efforts reflect the spirit of national responsibility and a collective commitment to the well-being of society.
The survey seeks to collect accurate and comprehensive data on the prevalence of diseases and their associated risk factors, including diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, chronic respiratory diseases, and cancer, which continue to pose a challenge to health sectors nationally and globally and have a significant impact on the health of individuals and communities, such as unhealthy behaviors and physical inactivity.
Through this project, the Sultanate of Oman will be able to accurately assess the current health situation and determine priorities, the Minister of Health said in a statement.
These data will be used as a basis for developing innovative health policies and programs aimed at preventing NCDs and reducing their associated health and economic burdens.
Participation in this survey is not just a response to a national request, but rather a collective duty that reflects the community’s awareness of the importance of its role in building a sustainable, healthy future. Every participation is a step towards improving the quality of life for current and future generations and enhancing investments in public health to achieve Oman’s future vision, he said.
World Health Organization (WHO) conducts a periodic assessment of national capacity for NCD prevention and control through the use of a global survey of all Member States known as the NCD country capacity survey (NCD CCS).
Periodic assessment allows countries and WHO to monitor progress and achievements in expanding capacities to respond to the epidemic of non-communicable diseases.
The questionnaire is completed by national NCD focal points or designated colleagues within the Ministry of Health or a national institute/agency and covers the following topics: health system infrastructure; funding; policies, plans, and strategies; surveillance; primary health care; and partnerships and multilateral collaboration.
