Oman and Angola seek to promote areas of bilateral cooperation in various fields and open new horizons for cooperation in a manner that serves their common interests and achieves promising and solid strategic partnerships. The upcoming official visit of President Joao Lourenco of the Republic of Angola to the Sultanate of Oman this Thursday represents a new chapter of political relations and bilateral cooperation between the two countries. It is also an important step to foster trade and economic ties in a manner that serves their common interests.
Within the context of the bilateral relations, a number of visits were made during the past period that contributed to achieving more rapprochement and exploring opportunities for cooperation and prospects for partnership between the two countries.
One of the most important visits was made by HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth to Angola last May 2024. During the visit, a cooperation agreement in the field of investment was inked.
In addition, a delegation from the State Council also visited Angola in October 2023 to participate in the meetings of the 147th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.Oman and Angola started to develop economic and trade relations recently, as there are no agreements or memoranda of understanding signed between the two countries in this field, which is reflected in the figures of the volume of trade and investment between them.
The inter-trade statistics show that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries amounted to approximately RO 3.2 million by the end of 2023, compared to 2022, when it was about RO 1.3 million, recording an increase of 145.1 per cent. The trade balance between the two countries in 2023 was in favour of the Sultanate of Oman, with a surplus of about RO 1.9 million. — ONA
