MUSCAT: The third edition of the Sohar Festival, which will continue until January 3, is taking centre stage with the start of the winter season and winter tourism.

The winter weather provides an excellent opportunity to organise events and festivals that enhance the tourism experience in the Sultanate of Oman. It also significantly contributes to promoting domestic tourism by attracting visitors from different regions and providing them with the chance to enjoy distinctive cultural and entertainment experiences.

The festival, held in the Wilayat of Suhar, reflects the governorate's commitment to promoting domestic tourism and stimulating economic activity. The Sohar Festival builds upon the successes of previous editions, continuing to provide various events that meet the aspirations of different segments of society and highlight cultural and national identity.

This year's festival offers a diversity of events, including more than 35 events on the Grand Theatre, 40 events on the Children's Theatre, and 105 events in the heritage villages, along with three international marine competitions.

Mohammed bin Sulaiman al Kindi, Governor of Al Batinah North and Chairman of the Main Committee of the Third Sohar Festival, highlighted the prominent additions to this edition, such as dancing musical fountain shows and spray paths that create a refreshing winter atmosphere for visitors.

The Sohar Festival 2024 presents a golden opportunity to support the local economy in Al Batinah North Governorate, providing platforms for traders, business owners, and productive families to showcase their products. The festival has attracted 160 job seekers and supported 120 productive families and small and medium enterprises from the governorate, contributing to job opportunities and increased income under the supervision of the General-Directorate of Social Development and the Directorate of Labour in Al Batinah North Governorate.

This year, the festival also organised a special entertainment day for people with disabilities as part of the accompanying events, demonstrating its commitment to providing a comprehensive experience for all attendees.

The festival plays a significant role in enhancing the governorate's position as a tourist and cultural destination, offering diverse activities that combine heritage, arts and sports. It reflects the commitment of organisers to provide a rich experience that meets visitors' aspirations and highlights the authentic Omani identity, while also stimulating economic and tourism activities in Al Batinah North Governorate.

Leveraging the winter weather in the Sultanate of Oman contributes to stimulating tourism, enhancing community well-being, and providing new opportunities for economic growth.
