

MUSCAT: The Sultan's Armed Forces (SAF) and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) marked ‘Retirees' Day,’ celebrated annually on December 7, in a tribute to the invaluable contributions of military personnel who dedicated their lives to serving Oman. The occasion reflects the nation's deep appreciation for their pioneering roles in safeguarding the country's achievements and fostering its progress.
Retirees continue to play a vital role in Oman's development by engaging in cultural, social, economic and administrative fields, drawing on the wealth of knowledge and practical experience accumulated during their service. Their contributions act as a cornerstone for the nation’s advancement, reflecting their enduring commitment to the Sultanate of Oman.
The Ministry of Defence and SAF remain steadfast in supporting retirees through a range of initiatives, including financial assistance, housing programmes, healthcare services via the Medical City hospitals and recreational opportunities such as Haj and Umrah trips.
Brigadier General (Engineer) Ali bin Sulaiman Al thuhli, Head of Military Social Services at the SAF Chief of Staff, emphasised the significance of Retirees’ Day, saying, “Celebrating December 7 each year honours the Sultan’s Armed Forces retirees and recognises their remarkable contributions during military service. Their sacrifices and unwavering dedication to safeguarding the nation's achievements will forever inspire future generations.”
He further highlighted the pivotal role of the Military Social Services Department in advancing welfare programmes for retirees, enhancing housing loan schemes and fostering public-private collaborations that contribute to Oman's development. — ONA
