The number of applicants to the 11th National Scientific Research Award reached 274, of them 167 are PhD holders (or equivalent degrees), while in the category of emerging researchers (non-holders of PhD degrees) the number of applicants reached 107.

The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MoHERI) will announce the winners of the award during the annual researchers’ forum due to be held on Monday, December 9, 2024, in Oman Across Ages Museum.

The forum will be held under the auspices of Dr Khamis bin Saif al Jabri, Chairman of Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit, in the presence of several dignitaries and representatives from government and private higher education institutions, as well as research organisations.

Dr Saif bin Abdullah al Haddabi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation for Research and Innovation, said: "The Annual Researchers Forum is the most important annual scientific event that provides researchers and interested individuals with an opportunity to learn about cutting edge developments and exchange knowledge and experiences among academic and scientific sectors as well as community members. This is achieved by encouraging researchers to propose their research initiatives and showcase their research activities in various scientific fields. The forum will include the announcement of the winners of the National Research Award in two categories: the Best Published Scientific Research Award for doctoral degree holders and equivalents, and the Best Published Scientific Research Award for emerging researchers (without a doctoral degree) in six research sectors: education and human resources, information and communication systems, health and community service, energy and industry, culture and humanities and social sciences, and the environment and biological resources."

The forum will also include the signing of research contracts for the Strategic Research Projects Programme that serves government institutions, and the efficiency-based institutional funding programme that serves higher education institutions. In addition, there will be two discussion sessions on the role of institutions in supporting innovation and entrepreneurship, along with the journey of an innovator from idea to implementation. The forum will also feature an exhibition of winning research projects and showcase projects from several innovators.
