Muscat: Free HIV testing is available in all government health institutions and most private health institutions, and the test is conducted in complete confidentiality, according to the Ministry of Health.

Rapid HIV testing is also available at all Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) centres where rapid blood testing is conducted to detect HIV and the result is obtained in minutes without the need to identify the person who underwent the test.

VCTs also provide awareness of the methods of transmission of HIV infection and its prevention.

It also advises people on the importance of conducting the test at the earliest when exposed to the risk of infection.

Early detection helps in starting treatment early for the person infected with the virus to enjoy a long and healthy life just like those infected with other chronic diseases.
