MUSCAT: The Oman Hockey Association (OHA) unveiled details of hosting three tournaments which takes place as sidelines to FIH Congress to be held in Muscat during November 7-9. The three events will be represented by Oman International Women’s Hockey Tournament, the Gulf Men’s Hockey Tournament and the School Hockey Tournament.


All the three events will be scheduled at the Oman Hockey Stadium in Al Amerat. The delegates from 500 international sports hockey representing 141 countries will attend the events. The press conference led by Dr Marwan bin Jumaa al Jumaa, Chairman of OHA, along with representatives of United Thalassery Sports Club and local media.


The second edition of Women's International tournament features participation from eight teams distributed into two groups. Group A comprised from the Gymkhana Club from India, Sea Pearls from Oman, FAB from Oman and Smouha Club from Egypt. Group B included Hostel Hawks and Don Bosco Academy from India, Shahi Foods from Oman and the Eastern Club from Egypt.


The Gulf Men’s Hockey Tournament will feature eight teams, divided into two groups. Group A will comprise from Accelerator from India, Muscat Hiking from Oman, Dadabhai from the UAE and Coorg from Oman. Group B includes Republican from India, FAB from Oman, Aman wa Salam from Oman and Port Fouad from Egypt.


The third event will be School Hockey Tournament which includes male and female categories. In both male and female categories, many private and international schools will take part in the event.


At the press conference, Dr Marwan al Jumaa affirmed the significance of these tournaments as part of Oman’s continuous efforts to promote hockey sports in the country. “Our target is to continue in our efforts of developing players’ skills and expand the sport's base in Oman. The tournaments' alignment with the country’s sports development plans, enhancing Oman’s presence in regional and international sports,” he said


"The tournaments aim to elevate the technical levels of national players, provide competitive experience, foster sportsmanship among youth through the school tournament and promote Oman’s tourism as visitors explore the country’s natural and cultural sites. We anticipate tangible benefits, such as strengthened team performance, increased youth engagement in hockey and heightened awareness of community partnerships in supporting sports," OHA chief added.
