Muscat: The General Assembly of the Oman Basketball Association (OBA), in its extraordinary meeting, approved the Federation's statutes and athletes' regulations. The meeting was chaired by Eng Khalfan bin Saleh al Naabi, President of the Association, in the presence of Dr Ali al Yaarubi, Vice-President, Secretary-General, and members of the Board of Directors. The meeting was also attended by Dr Amer al Touqi, Director of the Sports Institutions Department, Shaikh Mohammed al Saadi, Director of the Legal Department, representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, and representatives of the Al Seeb, Oman, Nizwa, Ahli Sidab, Qurayat, Al Bashayer, Salalah and Dhofar clubs. The meeting was held at the premises of the Oman Olympic Committee.
The meeting was opened by Mohammed al Hassani, Acting Secretary-General, announcing the completion of the legal quorum with the presence of club representatives, and the agenda was approved.
Eng Khalfan al Naabi praised in his speech the ministerial decree issued by HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, which aims to improve the work and organise relations between the Association and institutions, and to strengthen the role of sports bodies to enable them to perform their role at the local and international levels.
During the meeting, the new statutes were approved, which included updates covering the scientific qualifications and technical and administrative experience of the members of the Board of Directors and the Secretary-General. The statutes consist of nine chapters covering definitions and general provisions, membership and its conditions, regulations for acceptance, suspension, and expulsion, the relationship with specialised committees for sports disputes, obligations of members, honorary membership, and the General Assembly of the Federation.
The athletes' regulations were also approved, which consist of seven chapters covering the definitions, objectives, and tasks of the Athletes' Committee, the formation of the Committee's General Assembly, the Committee's competencies, the conditions for candidacy for membership, and the elections of the Committee's Board of Directors.
The meeting also agreed to extend the term of the current Board of Directors in preparation for the Board of Directors elections for the 2024-2028 electoral term, scheduled to be held in September. The Elections and Appeals and Challenges Committees for the upcoming elections were formed.
The meeting recommended that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth bear the budget of the Athletes' Committee and the salaries of the executive director due to the inadequacy of the Federation's budget for these additional expenses.
