The Oman Astronomical Society (OAS) is organising a stargazing event at Bandar Al Khairan in Yiti Hills today (October 8), aiming to allow the general public to experience the beauty of the cosmos under the night skies.
Starting at 5:40 pm, this two-hour session will provide an extraordinary opportunity to observe stars, planets, and other celestial wonders in a dark setting.
Speaking to the Observer, Abdulwahab bin Sulaiman al Busaidy, an Astro scientist, said that this is a rare opportunity for the public to observe the multitude of stars and the galaxy with technological assistance and comprehend the vast skies.
"We are organising the stargazing event for the public, both for hobbyists and common people, with the aim of experiencing the stars and objects in space and understanding the vastness of the universe to gain knowledge of astronomical events," he said.
People are advised to arrive on time at 5:40 pm as the place is a little challenging and requires time to climb up the hill to get a better view of the stars.
OAS is a voluntary, non-profit scientific association established by a ministerial decision in June 2008, concerned with an interest in astronomy and space sciences, and gathering those interested in these sciences in the Sultanate of Oman for the purpose of exchanging and developing knowledge.
