MUSCAT, OCT 1

The Oman Padel Committee (OPC) announced on Tuesday the launch of the MB Padel Tour, which will be held across the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman from October 17 to December 7. The OPC officials unveiled the details of the championship, which will be organised by the committee in coordination with Mohammed al Barwani LLC (MB LLC) across several governorates.

The press conference was held at the headquarters of the Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) in the presence of Taha bin Suleiman al Kishry, OOC Secretary-General, and Al Numan bin Sultan al Numani, Chairman of OPC, along with various officials and padel enthusiasts.

Mazin al Shaqsi, a board member of OPC, made a presentation highlighting the details of the tournament, which aims to promote padel by introducing the sport and emphasising its rapid growth and the number of players involved. The tournament will run for two months and will take place in five governorates, with the participation of 350 players from both genders.

The championship logo reflects the modernity of the sport and Oman’s geographical diversity, with its design inspired by the face of a padel racket, while the dots symbolise the passion and spirit of the game, representing the number of governorates participating in the competition.

The men's opening round will take place during October 17-19 in the governorates of Muscat and Musandam. Al Dhakhiliyah Governorate players will compete during October 24-26 in the Wilayat of Samayil. The governorates of Al Sharqiyah North and Al Sharqiyah South will host their matches from October 31 to November 2. The governorates of Al Batinah North, Al Batinah South, Al Dhahirah and Al Buraimi will compete during November 7-9, while the governorates of Dhofar and Al Wusta will have their round from November 14 to 16 in the Wilayat of Salalah. The men’s final will take place in Muscat Governorate on December 13-14 at the Strike Padel court.

The women's round will be held exclusively in Muscat, as most female players are based in the capital. This round will be a knockout stage tournament, held from December 5-7 at Arena Padel.

Al Shaqsi confirmed there are no registration fees for players to take part in the championship. Players can register via the 'XEENA' app, which is the official tech partner of OPC. Registration will open for each governorate very soon on the committee's social media channels.

The committee has allocated a total cash prize of RO 4,000, with cash awards starting from the quarterfinals. Additional prizes will be given to attendees and fans during the event.

Mazin said the partnership with the Al Barwani group reflects the company's commitment to community values, which align with the committee's goals. “This is a real investment in youth talent and expanding the sport of padel across Oman. We aim to continue this partnership for years to come to develop Oman’s padel scene. This championship is the first of its kind in Oman and will seek to achieve three main objectives: promoting padel in Oman, reaching enthusiasts in the governorates and assessing the players' skill levels while raising awareness about the sport," he added.
