Muscat: An awareness campaign entitled ‘My Body is a Trust’ was launched at Majan University College, on Tuesday. The event was held under the auspices of Shaikh Abdulhamid bin Abdulrahman al Kharousi, Deputy Wali of Muttrah in the presence of Dr Samira al Maimani, Director of the Healthcare Department in Muscat Governorate.
Dr Nabila al Wahaibi, Head of the Health Supervision Office in the Wilayat of Muttrah, delivered a speech in which she explained the importance of instilling the culture of protection and self-care for students emphasising the role of teachers, social workers and school nurses in enhancing students’ wellness. Then, Dr Rahma al Riyami, a family medicine specialist launched the campaign’s slogan and identity.
A workshop was held to outline focal points for awareness of sex education and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) which targeted teachers, social workers and school nurses in the schools of the Wilayat of Muttrah.
The campaign is conducted in cooperation with the Royal Hospital, the Ministry of Social Development and the Directorate of Education in Muscat Governorate and aims to raise awareness about health topics including HIV, healthy food, physical activity, drugs and psychotropic substances and smoking.
The workshop was prepared by certified trainers specialising in education and psychological counselling from the Ministry of Social Development represented by Dr Hilal al Kharousi and Jalila al Numani, certified trainer in HIV and senior nurse specialising in infection control at the Royal Hospital.
