MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman has witnessed a significant increase in airport passenger traffic, with an impressive 9.3% rise by the end of July 2024. A total of 8,478,548 passengers were recorded on 63,219 flights, compared to 7,757,629 passengers on 59,778 flights by the same time in 2023.


According to preliminary data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information, Muscat International Airport handled 7,571,148 passengers, marking an 8.9% increase with 56,498 flights — a 5.8% rise in flight numbers. Of these, 51,535 were international flights carrying 6,949,193 passengers, while 4,963 domestic flights transported 621,955 passengers.


Salalah Airport saw a 10.3% increase, serving 827,486 passengers on 5,975 flights, an uptick of 3.6%. This included 3,088 international flights with 392,098 passengers and 2,887 domestic flights with 435,388 passengers.


Sohar Airport recorded 45,126 passengers on 384 flights, whereas Duqm Airport served 34,788 passengers on 362 flights.


Omani nationals were the most frequent travelers at Muscat International Airport, with 216,690 passengers, followed by Indian nationals at 182,873, and Pakistani nationals at 46,885. — ONA
