The Oman Open Hockey5s Championship kicked off on Sunday in Muscat with 12 matches featuring teams from various military and civilian sectors. The first day witnessed a series of exciting games, reflecting the intense competition and thorough preparation of the participating teams.
In the opening match, the Royal Army team secured a resounding 5-1 victory over the FAP team, starting the tournament strongly and demonstrating their readiness to compete for the title. In another match, the Security and Safety team triumphed over the Jindal team with a 4-1 score, showing clear dominance throughout the game.
In the third encounter, Badr Al Sama secured an important 3-1 win over the Royal Guard team, controlling the game and sealing the victory in their favour. Additionally, the first day's matches saw a significant 5-1 win for the Al Fayha team over the Royal Navy team.
Later, in a second match for FAP, they suffered a defeat against the Royal Navy team with a 7-3 score, in a game marked by strong offensive play from the Navy. In another encounter, the Royal Navy team prevailed against the Security and Safety team with a 3-1 victory, strengthening their position in the competition.
The Royal Army team continued their impressive performance with a comfortable 3-0 win over Badr Al Sama, boosting their chances of advancing to the later stages. In a strong matchup, Al Fayha defeated Jindal 5-2, confirming their dominance on the first day.
In the next game, FAP lost a close match to Badr Al Sama with a 3-2 score, in an exciting game that remained competitive until the final moments. Meanwhile, Al Fayha returned with another big win, beating the Security and Safety team 4-1.
In another match, the Royal Army team continued their outstanding performance, defeating the Royal Guard team 4-1, maintaining their consistent high-level play. The first day concluded with Jindal beating the Navy team 3-2 in a competitive game that saw both teams exchanging control throughout.
Amir al Maashari, representing the Badr Al Sama team, stated that this championship plays a very important role in enabling young players to gain experience through interactions with other teams in both local and international matches.
Commenting on the expected level of the championship, Al Maashari said: "We expect strong competition, as most teams have been preparing for this tournament for long and intensive periods."
Regarding his team's preparations, Al Maashari noted that they are fully ready to compete, saying: "We have trained for two consecutive months, with two daily training sessions, one in the morning and one in the evening. We will strive to deliver an outstanding performance worthy of our reputation, and we aspire to seize the championship title."
