Muscat: Muscat Municipality announced on Tuesday a new regulation requiring all restaurants to replace conventional knives with electric cutters for slicing shawarma meat.

The decision, aimed at eliminating health risks associated with metal shavings produced during the sharpening of traditional blades, underscores the municipality's commitment to maintaining high standards of food hygiene.

Restaurant owners will be granted a three-month grace period to comply with the new regulation, allowing ample time for the transition to the safer cutting method.

This initiative forms part of broader efforts by Muscat Municipality to ensure the safety and quality of food served to consumers across the city.

The municipality emphasizes that this measure is critical to preventing potential health hazards and ensuring the well-being of the public.
