Muscat: As part of the ongoing efforts to implement executive plans for operational governance committees, a workshop was held under the National Employment Programme recently to enhance the efficiency of air freight for fish and food products at Salalah Airport.

Organised in collaboration with various government and private entities, the workshop focused on improving the air freight processes for fish and food products.

The initiative is part of the National Employment Programme’s efforts to activate executive plans for the employment governance committees in the agriculture and fisheries, water resources, and transportation and logistics sectors.

Participants included representatives from the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries, and Water Resources, Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, and National Programme for Investment and Export Development (Nazhar). The goal was to leverage Oman’s advanced logistics infrastructure to boost fish and food exports and discuss employment opportunities for Omani youth.

Key topics covered in the seminar included an analysis of the current state of air freight and food export, with a particular focus on shipping chilled fish from Oman via airports. Proposals were made to enhance food and fish exports through airports, and interactive discussions were held to identify challenges and potential solutions. Emphasis was placed on the importance of providing necessary support for this critical sector.

The National Employment Programme aims to foster consensus among stakeholders and strengthen cooperation between air transport companies, thereby improving the efficiency of air freight for fish and increasing Omani exports to global markets.

This initiative is a crucial step in a long-term strategy to enhance the infrastructure and develop logistical services at Salalah Airport, in alignment with Oman Vision 2040.

The vision seeks to position Oman as a global logistics hub. These efforts are expected to boost fish exports, generate higher revenues, create new job opportunities, and enhance the connectivity between different transportation modes, linking the food security and transportation and logistics sectors. This will ultimately improve the quality of exported products and ensure they reach international markets in optimal condition.
