MUSCAT: The number of fish factories in the Sultanate of Oman until the end of 2023 stood at 114 units that provide value-added fish products, achieve sustainable development, support economic diversification and enhance innovation in accordance with the aspirations of Oman Vision 2040.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources affirmed that the recent growth in Sultanate of Oman’s fisheries sector constitutes one of the basic pillars of food security and provides ideal means of optimising the use of the country’s resources.

The ministry pointed out that 81 fish factories have been granted a 'Certificate of Quality Control and Export' to indicate that the units offer fish products that adhere to international standards, thereby meriting an opportunity to export to global markets.

The ministry explained that fisheries units operate in the fields of processing, packing and freezing fish fillets, canning fish and manufacturing various food products from aquatic resources (fish burgers, nuggets and other products) that all meet the needs of consumers in local and foreign markets. - ONA
