Met Office issues rain alert

Muscat: Omani meteorology on Monday has issued a rain alert due to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds.


According to the weather forecast, thunderstorms are expected accompanied by scattered thundershowers ranging between 10 - 25 mm starting on Monday .


The affected areas are the mountainous and desert areas of the governorates of Al Dakhiliyah, Al Dhahirah, North Al Sharqiyah, Al Buraimi, and North Al Batinah .


Active wind gusts are expected to range between 15 - 45 knots.


The spread and flow of low and medium clouds was experienced over parts of the coast of the Sea of ​​Oman Muscat, Musandam, and North Al Batinah and over the governorates of South Al Sharqiyah, North Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, and Dhofar.


Low level of horizontal visibility has been observed on the coasts and mountains of Dhofar Governorate. The Arabian Sea coast is reported to be rough with the height of sea waves ranging from to 2 to 4 meters.


Meanwhile, Oman Met Office noted that the weather stations observations and satellite images showed high levels of surface humidity in parts of the governorates of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, and Muscat, which also leads to a decrease in horizontal visibility.
