New edition of Omani Music issued

Muscat: Oman Centre for Traditional Music at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, on Monday issued an edition of electronic magazine Omani Music, a periodical publication that deals with Omani music in particular and Arab music in general. Its articles span thought, literature, heritage, musical history, personalities, musical compositions, among others.


The latest edition of the magazine contains articles penned by a number of writers specializing in traditional music including an article written by Professor Mohammed Al Asaad Qaria, Professor at the University of Tunis entitled The Definition of Maqam in Some Old and Modern References, an article entitled Hajj Songs in Egyptian Culture by Professor Dr Mohammed Shabana, Professor of Popular Music at the Academy of Arts in Cairo, an article by Dr Amal al Harmaliyya entitled From Water to Music in addition to a number of insightful articles. — ONA
