SALALAH :The General Directorate of Culture, Sports, and Youth in the Governorate of Dhofar has meticulously finalized its preparations for an extensive array of programs slated for this year's autumn season, aimed at engaging a diverse demographic. The directorate aspires to attract a significant influx of tourists through these events, facilitated by collaborations with various sectors within the governorate.
Elaborating on the directorate's readiness to inaugurate its programs for the 2024 Dhofar autumn season, Musa bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi, the Director General of the General Directorate of Culture, Sports, and Youth in the Governorate of Dhofar, remarked that extensive efforts have been undertaken to prepare numerous facilities intended to host this year's events.
He further disclosed that the meticulously curated event program aspires to draw over 300,000 visitors to the Dhofar autumn season, encompassing both domestic and international tourists.
In a statement to the Oman News Agency, the Director General emphasized that the program's development has been underpinned by a commitment to diversity and inclusivity across cultural, sports, and youth activities. The program's objectives include the realization of cultural and sports projects, the orchestration of approximately 100 events for governmental, private, and community entities, and the preparation of 28 facilities, including 20 sports facilities and halls across various wilayats, to invigorate multiple sectors within the governorate.
He also highlighted that this year's program features 20 cultural activities, encompassing workshops, specialized programs, art exhibitions, the Dhofar Theatre Festival, and other cultural events distributed throughout the governorate. These initiatives are designed to cultivate and enhance creative talents, showcase their abilities, strengthen partnerships among community institutions, elevate cultural awareness, and foster national pride. Additionally, the program includes cultural evenings, workshops, training courses, and several exhibitions in photography and fine arts, alongside the Dhofar Theatre Festival and a children's library.
In the sports and youth sector, the Director General announced that this year will witness 34 sports programs and various women's activities, including sports, competitions, and specialized courses conducted in the directorate's facilities and sports centers across the governorate. The sports sector will feature numerous initiatives, including 13 diverse sports events such as football championships for the public and private sectors, a youth hockey club championship, a chess championship, and a beach games championship, in addition to a sports caravan.
Eleven women's activities will be organized, featuring bowling, padel, electronic games, and chess tournaments. Additionally, 11 diverse youth activities will include various training courses, competitions, and a youth innovation exhibition.
The Director General affirmed that this year's program will encompass numerous events targeting various age groups, focusing particularly on public library activities.
