Muscat is reeling under scorching summer, but Masirah is a very different story. Six-hour drive or less than an hour's flight away, the island is another world with cooler weather and consistent wind.
Every year at this time, tourists from around the world flock to this special place.
These are the windseekers, the wind surfers and kiteboarders from around the globe. They have chosen this path of adrenaline to immerse in the deep blue, the tranquil green, from serene lagoon to choppy waves - all they need is the open space to play their sport and, of course, the wind.
In Masirah, no space is too crowded, and there are plenty of beaches to choose from, each with their unique features from the level of wind, waves (or no waves), rocks (or no rocks).
For those who understand this thrill, Masirah is the perfect haven for windsurfers from the UAE, Europe, Canada, Asia, Australia.
From beginners looking to get started without needing to ‘wait’ for the wind indefinitely, to the Big Air athletes coming to try new tricks or beat their own records, the windseekers just looking for a place to enjoy the sport.
Luke, a kiter from Dubai who visited Masirah for the first time this season, said “I’m definitely coming back for sure, I started kiting in Dubai and the conditions were challenging with low wind, here the conditions are amazing”. Johannas, an experienced kiter, said “I learnt kiting in Kite Camp at Masirah many years ago, and I’ve come here every year for the season for at least the last 5 years”
And for a sport that requires the right wind, the right place, without the overcrowded traffic of other kiters, Masirah is worth it.
Whether you're a novice eager to learn or an expert looking to push your limits, Masirah promises an unforgettable adventure. As the winds continue, so too will the passion of those who flock to this idyllic spot, solidifying its reputation as a top-tier kitesurfing paradise.
