Weather: Strong wind impacts roads

Muscat: The westerly - north westerly wind has been influencing the weather conditions in Oman for the last few days by bringing in wind chill resulting in lower temperatures.


The current weather conditions that have been pronounced with exceptional strong winds have been a concern to motorists as well. The Royal Oman Police, ROP, alerts the users of the Ibri - Wadi Al Ain - Fahad road by stating that sandunes have accumulated on the road due to strong winds.


Oman Met Office weather expert explained to Observer that this is the result of the westerly- northwesterly wind, which has also had resulted in rough seas.


The ROP requested the public to follow the guidelines and adhere to the speed limit to avoid danger.


The chances of dust rising due to fresh wind over parts of the open and desert areas is expected to continue and Oman Met Office gave an alert on horizontal visibility which could reduce during fog formation and dust rising.


The strong winds are expected to continue until Wednesday afternoon and the sea is also expected to continue to be rough until then, according to weather forecaster at Oman Met Office.


Sea waves will continue to rise on the coasts of Musandam Governorate and the coasts of the Sea of ​​Oman today and tomorrow, Tuesday, with the sea being moderate/rough waves (2.0-2.5) meters coinciding with active northwesterly winds.


Please check the sea condition before going there and practicing marine activities, said the authorities.


There have been low clouds and fog patches at late night to early morning over parts of North Al Sharqiya, South Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta governorates and coasts of Sea of Oman. High clouds were also reported over northern governorates.
