

MUSCAT: The total value of fish landed in the Sultanate of Oman by end of Q1 amounted to about RO 147.308 million, an increase of 0.5 pe rcent, compared to the same period in 2023, which amounted to RO 146.543 million.
Preliminary statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information indicated that artisanal fishing recorded an increase of 11.4 per cent at the end of last March, reaching 193,054 tonnes, compared to 173,267 tonnes in the same period in 2023, while the amount of commercial fishing reached 23,826 tonnes. The amount of coastal fishing is 2,443 tonnes.
Statistics showed that the Al Wusta Governorate harvested the highest quantity of fish landed by artisanal fishing, amounting to 79,294 tonnes, followed by the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate with 60,734 tonnes, then the Dhofar Governorate with 22,119 tonnes, and in the North Al Batinah and South Al Batinah Governorates, 14,898 tonnes. When the amount of fish landed by artisanal fishing in Musandam Governorate reached 9,969 tonnes, and in Muscat Governorate, 6,39 tonnes.
Statistics showed that the largest quantity of fish landed by artisanal fishing came from small pelagic fish, as the quantity amounted to about 118,389 tonnes at the end of last March.
The amount of large pelagic fish landed by artisanal fishing amounted to 39,959 tonnes, while the amount of demersal fish amounted to 29,617 tonnes. The amount of crustaceans landed by artisanal fishing amounted to 1,284 tonnes. As for crustaceans and molluscs landed by artisanal fishing, they amounted to 2,354 tonnes, and other fish amounted to 1,450 tonnes. — ONA
