

MUSCAT: Menagen Pharmaceutical Industries opened its factory in the Rusayl Industrial Area on Monday.
The RO 20 million pharmaceutical plant is built on a 12,000 square metres land plot. It is constructed in accordance with the specifications stipulated by the Ministry of Health and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as well as the European Medicines Agency. It is the first pharmaceutical plant of its kind in the Middle East for manufacturing medicines for rare diseases.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Saif bin Khalfan al Hosni, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Menagen, said: “Menagen Pharmaceutical Industries has a significant contribution when it comes to localising pharmaceutical industries in the Middle East and North Africa region. The project which was once a mere idea has become a reality and we strive to realise more of our missions.”
Hamad bin Saif al Hosni, Board Member, said: “Menagen constitutes a significant addition to the healthcare landscape in the Sultanate of Oman. The first part of the name Mena refers to the Middle East and North Africa region (Mena region), a region that we are proud to be serving and contribute to its development in terms of health and economy. The second part Gene stands for genetics reflecting our commitment to gene technology and innovation in the fields of biomedicine.
“This opening is the culmination of years of experience and of careful planning. Menagen is a strategic investment initiative worth over RO 30 million. The opening of our new pharmaceutical plant is in line with the goals of Oman Vision 2040.”
