Muscat: The Public Services Regulatory Authority approves the reduction rates on electricity consumption bills during the summer months and announces the stabilization of the electricity consumption unit rates for the year 2024.

The Public Services Regulatory Authority has approved the reduction rates on electricity consumption bills for residential customers (basic accounts) during the summer months. It has also announced the stabilization of the electricity consumption unit rates for the year 2024 at the same rates as in 2023, aiming to alleviate the impact of rising electricity bills during the coming months due to increased temperatures leading to higher energy consumption units.

The authority has instructed companies operating in this sector to calculate the reduction rates starting from May of the previous year until August of the current year. It will monitor these companies to ensure the implementation of the reduction rates in electricity bills during these months.

The reduction rates on the three consumption tiers during the previous May varied. Consumers in the first tier, consuming from 0-4000 kilowatt-hours, will receive a 15% reduction in their bill value. Consumers in the second tier, consuming from 4001-6000 kilowatt-hours, will receive a 10% reduction in their bills, while consumers in the third tier, consuming over 6001 kilowatt-hours, will receive a 5% reduction.

During the months of June, July, and August, the reduction on the first tier from 0-4000 kilowatt-hours will be 20% of the bill value. Consumers in the second tier, consuming from 4001-6000 kilowatt-hours, will receive a 15% reduction in their bills, while the reduction on the third tier for consumption over 6001 kilowatt-hours will be 10% of the bill value.
