

Muscat: HH Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham al Said, Honorary President of the Promising Omani Startups Programme, on Monday reviewed the progress made by the joint workshop between the Programme’s Supervisory Committee and the Technical Committee.
The workshop aims to achieve integration between government establishments regarding innovation-based startup sector, aligning global trends in the startup sector with local trends in the Sultanate of Oman as well adopting the strategic orientations and executive plans of the Programme’s Supervisory Committee and the Technical Committee.
During the workshop, the committees discussed a number of topics including an analytical study of the Omani start-up system implemented by the Startup Genome Foundation and the study’s outcomes which include detailed cards and proposed initiatives in addition to a review of the heat map of the startup system prepared by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology which monitors the challenges and needs for developing the system. It includes seven axes within the establishment and growth stages in terms of programmes, skills and capabilities development, activities and events, higher education and research, financing and investment, legislation and laws, supporting the private sector and developing the technical environment in addition to reviewing Programme’s plan and budget for the year 2024.
The Promising Omani Start-ups Programme overseen by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, the Ministry of Economy and Oman Information and Communication Technology Group, is the translation of the keenness of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, to build a vibrant, prosperous economy by providing a stimulating environment for entrepreneurs and emerging companies and supporting them throughout the stages of their projects and enable them to stand out regionally and internationally. The Programme includes three main axes namely capacity-building for emerging companies, financing and investment in start-up companies and focusing on the legislative environment supporting start-ups. It also seeks to achieve economic diversification and financial sustainability in line with the Oman 2040 vision.
The workshop was attended by members of the supervisory committee, members of the Programme’s technical committee, representatives of relevant government agencies in addition to representatives of a number of start-up companies based on technology and innovation. — ONA
