The Omani-Brazilian Investment Forum was launched at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre here on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, commemorating half a century of diplomatic ties between the Sultanate of Oman and the Federative Republic of Brazil.

The two-day forum has been organized by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) in collaboration with Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, and the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI).

Yesterday’s opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Salim bin Mohammed al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism. Attendees also included Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, Celso Sabino de Oliveira, Brazil's Tourism Minister, and Faisal bin Abdullah al Rawas, Chairman of OCCI.

Pankaj Khimji, the Foreign Trade and International Cooperation adviser at MoCIIP, highlighted the forum's significance in strengthening bilateral relations and achieving Oman's carbon neutrality goal by 2050. Similarly, Brazilian Minister Celso Sabino de Oliveira emphasized the importance of genuine partnerships and collaboration between Oman and Brazil in various economic domains.

Minister Oliveira underscored the significance of the event as a platform for fostering bilateral cooperation between Oman and Brazil. In his address, he highlighted the geopolitical importance of both nations, with Oman serving as a gateway to Asia and Africa, and Brazil positioned as a key entry point to South America.

He drew attention to Brazil's global engagements, including its leadership role in the G20 and hosting COP30. These initiatives, he noted, demonstrate Brazil's commitment to international cooperation and environmental sustainability, paving the way for collaborative efforts with Oman.

Moreover, Oliveira pointed out the shared focus areas between Oman and Brazil, such as tourism promotion, clean energy adoption, and logistics enhancement. He emphasized the mutual benefits that could arise from collaboration in these sectors.

Lastly, he acknowledged the diplomatic milestone represented by the event coinciding with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Oman and Brazil. He highlighted the importance of this occasion in deepening bilateral ties and fostering economic development between the two nations.

Reflecting on the occasion, Talal bin Sulaiman al Rahbi, the Sultanate of Oman's Ambassador to Brazil, praised the initiative and expressed hope for the "Made in Brazil" exhibition to become an annual event. He reiterated the commitment to organizing a similar forum in Brazil to showcase Omani products and attract investments.

Additionally, Shaikh Rashid bin Amer al Masalhi, First Deputy Chairman of OCCI’s Board of Directors, lauded the Chamber’s efforts in facilitating the forum. He underscored the chamber's commitment to supporting private sector growth and enhancing economic relations between the two nations.

The forum also featured a multi-sectoral exhibition dedicated to Brazilian products and services, providing an opportunity to explore market potential and foster bilateral trade relations. Through bilateral meetings and networking sessions, Omani and Brazilian businesses aimed to capitalize on the available opportunities and establish fruitful partnerships.
