The eleventh edition of the ‘Fak Khorba’, an initiative for securing those who are facing legal proceedings or detained for minor financial offences, has concluded successfully, according to the Oman Lawyers Association (OLA).
Conducted during the holy month of Ramadhan, till April 10, the details of the successful culmination will be disclosed on Monday at a special event to be held under the auspices of Dr Hamad bin Hamdan al Rubaee, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Omani Lawyers Association, and other directors of the organisation.
“We are happy to announce that we have successfully concluded the month long Fak Khorba which is in its eleventh edition now, and glad to announce that we have secured the release of many who were held for minor, unintentional financial offences and they include both citizens and expatriates in the country,” said Dr Hamad al Rubaee.
The details of the humanitarian programme titled 'Remove Distress', the people whose release were secured by the OLA, will be announced at the press conference on Monday.
Speaking to the Observer, Dr Khamis al Abri, spokesperson of the initiative, said that the initiative was able to secure the release of a total number of 811 prisoners who were held for several financial offences making the total number of releases to 5,000 approximately in all 10 editions.
"We are able to secure the release of nearly 5,000 people including citizens and expatriates held for minor financial offences in all Fak Khorba editions. We have made sure that they met the conditions, and their release was made possible with the Royal blessings and with cooperation of institutions and individuals across the country and have helped them resume a better life after the release," he said.
Dr Mohammed al Zadjali said that this initiative comes under the slogan “Because we believe that a person deserves a second chance,” aims to collect financial donations to release the families of the insolvent in prisons due to claims arising from civil, commercial, sharia and labour cases.
"The eleventh edition of the humanitarian initiative is designed within the framework of community synergy, and support to the mission was received through its bank account, its website and through Thawani Pay."
Designed by the Omani Lawyers Association in 2012, in commitment to divine wisdom, and following the example of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in extending his support to the society, Fak Khorba programme aims at relieving humanity from distress for the year 2024. This platform also allows the public to be partners in supporting the society and offer to relieve the distress of our brothers, because a person always deserves a second chance.
