Oman, Hungary to boost parliamentary ties

BUDAPEST: During his visit to Hungary, Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis Ash’shura, discussed ways of fostering cooperation between the two countries in legislative aspects as well as unifying visions in international parliamentary forums and enhancing cooperation in the areas of investment and other economic aspects based on the effective roles of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening bilateral cooperation.


The chairman of Majlis Ash’shura and his accompanying delegation met with parliamentarians and officials in the economic and investment fields including Dr László Kövér, Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly. During the meeting, they discussed ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries especially in the legislative fields and ways to develop them by raising coordination between Majlis Ash’shura and the Hungarian National Assembly in various aspects.


Al Maawali also met with Márton Nagy, Minister of Economic Development. They discussed ways of strengthening relations between the two countries in the economic and investment fields. The Omani side explained the promising economic sectors in the Sultanate of Oman.

During the visit, the chairman of Majlis Ash’shura received the Honorary Citizenship award from the prestigious Ludovica University of Public Service in recognition of his parliamentary achievements and his outstanding contributions to strengthening bilateral relations between the Sultanate of Oman and Hungary. The honouring ceremony was attended by Dr László Kövér, Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly, Malallah al Balushi, Ambassador of Sultanate of Oman to Hungary, Dr Barnabás Fodor, Ambassador of Hungary to the Sultanate of Oman, and a number of ambassadors of the GCC and Arab countries to Hungary.


In a speech he delivered at the university headquarters, Al Maawali stressed the important roles played by the embassies of both countries in strengthening diplomatic relations and bolstering bilateral cooperation in all fields, expressing his happiness over the development of bilateral relations between the two friendly countries through reciprocal visits by high-level delegations, adding that the two countries seek to enhance cooperation in various fields.


Al Maawali spoke about the level of development the consultative council process in the Sultanate of Oman has achieved. He stressed the Sultanate of Oman’s interest in the field of the environment to achieve environmental balance, reduce harmful emissions and mitigate the risks of climate changes. He valued the cooperation efforts between the two friendly countries in exchanging educational opportunities, strengthening cultural and scientific ties and cooperation in the fields of renewable energy and green hydrogen, as well as the agricultural sector, water management, and the transfer of science and technology.
