

Muscat: The Office of Majlis Ash’shura held a meeting under the chairmanship of Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman, on Tuesday.
During the meeting, the Office approved the request for briefing submitted to the Minister of Housing and Urban Planning regarding the National Urban Development Strategy 2040. It requested to inform the council of the strategy’s role in building executive measures in emergency situations in the governorates.
The Office’s members reviewed a number of government responses to oversight tools presented by council members. These included the response of the Minister of Economy to a briefing request submitted to him regarding the completed projects and those under execution within the Governorate Development Programme. They also reviewed a response from the Chairman of the Oman Investment Authority (OIA) to a briefing request regarding the development of Port Sultan Qaboos waterfront in the Wilayat of Muttrah. The office also reviewed the response of the Minister of energy and minerals to the briefing request regarding carbon mining in the Sultanate of Oman, in addition to the response of the chairman of the Oman Investment Authority to the briefing request regarding the Diar Ras Al Hadd project in the Wilayat of Sur.
The Office also approved a number of follow-up tools presented by the council members for monitoring the effects of the recent weather condition. These included a request for briefing on the National Emergency Fund including inquiring about the specific date for starting the Fund’s work as well as its working mechanism and system.
During its meeting, the Office reviewed a parliamentary question addressed to the minister of housing and urban planning regarding implementing the decision to award 10 per cent at least of the tenders related to the Sultan Haitham City to small and medium enterprises.
