MUSCAT: Oman’s athletes took part in the 1st Asian U20 Athletics Championship in the UAE from April 24 to 27. Oman’s delegation comprised five athletes who took part in different events. The national sprinters commenced their participation in the Asian event on the opening day.


Alaa al Zadjali finished fifth in the heats of the Women’s 100 meter in 12.97 seconds. The national sprinter Al Mulhem al Shukaili finished fourth in the heats of the Men’s 100 meter in 10.92 seconds. Alaa al Zadjali finished sixth in the heats of the Women's 200 meter event in 26.78 seconds.


Al Mulhem al Shukaili managed to qualify to the semifinals from the heats two qualifiers of the Men’s 200 meter event as he registered 22.28 second and came in the fifth place. In the semis, he finished in eighth place after he finished the distance in a timing of 22.27 seconds.

Mansoor al Farsi took part in the 1,500 meter event and he registered a timing of 4:33:61 minutes. Shiekha al Hinai took part in the long jump and she cleared 4.45 meter in the finals. Hajjan al Hajri concluded his participation in the finals of the Men’s hammer throw in tenth place after he cleared a distance of 56.04 meter.


Oman’s delegation was headed by Asaad al Hosni, Secretary-General of Oman Athletics Association (OAA). The delegation featured five athletes including Al Mulhem al Shukaili, Mansoor al Farsi, Hajjan al Hajri, Alaa al Zadjali and Shiekha al Hinai while the coaching staff featured from coach Hamood al Dalhami, Fahad Aqeel, Mahmood al Siyabi and Muzna al Malki.
