Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Investment promotion and the Authority for Public Services Regulation recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to manage electricity meters.

Speaking to the Observer, Director-General of Standards and Metrology at the ministry, Imad Khamis al Shukaili, said; "Due to numerous complaints about inaccurate readings, we have decided to implement a calibration system for all incoming electrical devices in the country. This measure is expected to resolve these complaints." According to al Shukaili, the ministry is planning to recalibrate more than 400 smart electrical items to ensure the accuracy of readings.

Earlier this year, the APSR, announced that it will implement a direct compensation system for electricity service subscribers. According to officials, operating companies must pay the compensation directly by deducting the amount from the electricity bill.

According to al Shukali, the Directorate will start recalibrating water meter readers in the second half of this year.
