Dubai: Oman national sailing team showed a great achievement when they snatched seven medals at the closing day at Abu Dhabi Aquatics Club from April 17 to 21. The competition is part of the first edition of GCC Youth Games, hosted by UAE and will continue until May 2, with participation of all GCC countries including Oman.


Oman sailing team snatched gold medal in optimist team category while Omani sailor Tamim al Balushi claimed silver medal after tough competition among 16 players in general optimist category.


Also, Tamim al Balushi won silver medal in male optimist category and Tartil al Hasani won bronze in female optimist category. While Abdullatif al Qasimi won gold medal in ILCA4 class, Faris al Hashimi finished sixth out off seven players.


Elyas al Fedhaly snatched gold in ILCA6, and Hatim al Erami claimed bronze in same category that saw seven participants from all GCC countries.


National junior handball team lost to Saudi Arabia 24-38 in the second match that was held at Al Batha Club hall in Sharjah. Oman handball did not perform as expected after first match against the host UAE team.


The first half of the match ended with the Saudi lead 20-13, the match remained unchanged in the score for Oman, to end with Saudi Arabia win.


Oman junior volleyball team lost their second test to Kuwaiti in three games on Sunday, with scores of 25-12, 25-16, 25-13. Volleyball competition takes place in Dubai from April 20 to 25.

In Monday's test, Oman team will play the third match against Qatar national team in the afternoon at Al Nasr Club.


Oman table tennis all set to compete in table tennis competitions from April 23 to 27 at Shabab Al Ahly Club hall in Dubai after they completed regular training at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher under the male coach, Omid Shams Shahrabaki, and female coach Fatimia Keifani.


Oman team will take part in men's singles, women's singles, men's teams, men's doubles, and women's doubles. The technical committee meeting will be held on April 23, during which the match schedule and technical regulations will be determined during the technical meeting on April 23.


National team includes six players: Ahmed bin Salem al Riyami, Ali bin Munir al Rawahi, Luqman bin Sultan al Farsi, Nasser bin Abdullah al Zaabi, Salma bint Yasser al Nasiriyah and Taliyah bint Munir al Rawahiyah.


Oman under-17 football team will be looking for three points in the third test against Bahrain on Monday at Al Nahyan Stadium in Al Wahda club in Abu Dhabi, as part of the football competitions during April 17 to 22.


Oman team, coached by the national head coach Anwar al Habsi, snatched three pints in the first appearance against the host UAE with a score of 2-1 on Wednesday, but they suffered a shock 1-0 loss against Kuwait on Friday despite excelling in an outstanding technical performance.


Oman’s chances to claim the gold or Silver medal after winning the third match are possible, but related to other results in the concluding round.
