Oman's electricity and water production increases

MUSCAT: The total electricity production of the Sultanate of Oman by the end of January 2024 recorded an increase of 14.1 per cent to reach 2609.3 gigawatt-hours compared to 2287.2 gigawatt-hours during the same period last year.


Statistics from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) indicated that the governorates of North and South Al Batinah and Ad Dhahirah recorded a total production of 1660.1 gigawatt-hours by the end of January 2024.


The total production in Muscat Governorate decreased by 114.3 per cent by the end of January 2024 to reach 1.7 gigawatt-hours and in Dhofar Governorate by 2.0 per cent to reach 297.2 gigawatt-hours.


The total production in the governorates of North and South Ash Sharqiyah increased by 30.5 per cent by the end of January 2024 to reach 627.9 gigawatt-hours, while the total production in Al Wusta Governorate decreased by 93.5 per cent to reach 1.4 gigawatt-hours and in Musandam Governorate , the total production increased by 14.2 per cent, reaching 24.4 gigawatt-hours.


The statistics also indicated that the net electricity production of the Sultanate of Oman by the end of January 2024 increased by 17.7 per cent to reach 2608.2 gigawatt-hours.


On the other hand, the statistics noted that the total amount of water produced in the Sultanate of Oman increased by 1.8 per cent to reach approximately 42,185,700 cubic metres by the end of January 2024, compared to 41,421,600 cubic metres in the same period of 2023. — ONA
