MUSCAT: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, in collaboration with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), launched yesterday the Professional Cards for Translators initiative. This aligns with the strategic direction of the ministry and the chamber, consistent with Oman Vision 2040, to improve and regulate the business environment, enhance competitiveness for specialized institutions, and highlight the importance of issuing professional cards for businesses. These cards include specific data about the institution, the license to practice translation, and the license's expiration date.

An agreement to collaborate on the initiative was signed by Dr Saleh bin Saeed Masan, Under-Secretary for Commerce and Industry, and Faisal bin Abdullah al Rawas, OCCI Chairman. The chamber's role includes designing a special programme for issuing translator ID cards and providing a designated card-printing device while covering all associated financial costs.

The professional cards for translators will enhance the efficiency of regulating specialized translation institutions, help organize the labour market, and create a conducive environment for employing job seekers in these specialties. The cards will play a vital role in facilitating collaboration with related entities for these services.

The platform's cloud database offers a well-organized list of professionals, simplifying the search and classification process and ensuring quick access to information. It allows concerned parties and the public to verify the card's validity and associated information, including licensing, commercial registration, and contact information.

Shaikh Ahmed bin Amer al Misfahi, Chairman of the Committee for Small and Medium Enterprises at the chamber, stated that the initiative to issue translator ID cards aims to improve the work environment for specialized small and medium enterprises in this field. It aims to regulate the performance of these institutions like other administrative offices associated with other organizations, contributing to the organization of the labor market by streamlining the efficiency of these institutions. — ONA
