1,630 rescued, 630 evacuated by ROP during extreme weather

Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) handled a slew of reports on rain-related incidents over the past three days.


Received by the Police Operations Centre and the operations departments in the geographical commands, the reports were related to vehicles washed away in running wadis stranded people and vehicles in flash floods as well as requests for assistance and the fire outbreaks.



Thanks to the ROP efforts, as many as 1,630 people were rescued and more than 630 evacuated by ROP teams. Besides, the police aviation carried out 50 air sorties and 152 rescue operations in governorates, transported medical teams and carried out search operations for missing people.


Nineteen people lost their lives in flash floods while search is still ongoing for 4 missing people.



Brigadier Mohammed bin Nasser al Kindi, Director-General of Operations at ROP, said that ROP is still operating and its teams are deployed in the wilayats affected by the low pressure. The ROP operations include providing aid and assistance, organizing traffic, maintaining security, and restoring normal life in cooperation with other government and private agencies.


The General-Directorate of Operations works around the clock to achieve rapid response in coordination with the Royal Oman Police formations and the relevant authorities, Al Kindi said, extending his thanks to citizens and residents for their cooperation with the ROP and their efforts in saving lives. — ONA
